The University of Bern is a comprehensive university, with eight faculties and around 160 institutions. It offers students an all-embracing range of courses in theology, the humanities and the natural sciences, law, economics and the social sciences, and medicine and veterinary medicine.
A bachelor degree lasts three years and involves 180 ECTS points. It provides a basic academic education and is a precondition for studying a master degree.
A master degree lasts one and a half or two years and involves 90 or 120 ECTS points. It provides academic development of the curriculum. A master degree constitutes a precondition for a doctorate.
Students can choose from numerous bachelor degrees, consecutive master courses and specialised master courses.
